The Lagos State Residents Registration Agency, LASRRA, keeps the state’s register of the people who live in Lagos, and issues a resident’s card to those who register. It is separate from your federal NIN.
Why register
The state uses the register to plan services, and some state services, schemes and benefits ask whether you are a registered resident. Registering also gives the state a record of you as a Lagos resident, which can help when dealing with state agencies.
LASRRA and your NIN
Your NIN is your national identity, from NIMC, and the one almost everything requires. LASRRA registration is the state’s own register of residents. They are different, and registering with one does not register you with the other; LASRRA asks for your NIN.
How to register
Registration is through LASRRA’s online portal and its registration centres across the state, including at local government offices. Bring your NIN and proof of your Lagos address. Use the official portal and centres, and be wary of anyone offering to “process” it for a fee.
Keep it current
If you move within Lagos, update your address. If you leave, the card has no further use.
