All About Lagos is a free, independent set of guides and calculators for living and working in Lagos.
It is modelled on All About Berlin, and built on the code of All About Accra, which does the same job for Ghana. The engine is shared. Nothing else is: Lagos has its own laws, its own agencies and its own arithmetic, and every figure here has been written for Nigeria rather than converted from somewhere else.
Who it is for
Anyone working out how Lagos actually operates. People arriving from abroad, people arriving from other Nigerian states, and Lagosians who have simply never had a reason to read the Tenancy Law until a landlord asked for two years up front.
How the numbers work
Every figure on this site lives in one file, with a note of where it came from, the date it was last checked and the date it expires. When a figure goes past its expiry the build fails, which means a stale number becomes a broken build rather than a wrong answer on the internet.
That is the whole quality mechanism, and it is worth understanding its limits. It guarantees that somebody looked at a source on a stated date. It does not guarantee they read it correctly.
Warning
This site is in the middle of being localised and is not finished.
Its figures were seeded from the legislation named against each one, but have not yet been checked one by one against the source by a person. Its calculators still carry Ghanaian arithmetic and are not published. Its map is not built. Treat everything here as a starting point for your own checking, not as advice you can rely on.
What this is not
It is not legal advice, tax advice or medical advice. It is not affiliated with the Government of Nigeria, the Lagos State Government, the LIRS, NIMC or any of the agencies it describes. Nobody pays to appear on it.
Where the law and the practice disagree, this site says so and says which is which. The rent advance is the clearest case: two years up front is unlawful under the Lagos State Tenancy Law and it is also what you will be asked for. Both of those are true and you need both of them.

If something here is wrong, please say so. A correction with a source attached is the most useful thing anyone can send.
