Admission to a Nigerian university rests on two separate requirements, and students regularly miss one while concentrating on the other. Enter your results to see where you stand.

University admission checker

Check whether your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB results and your UTME score meet the national minimum for admission to a Nigerian university.

The two requirements

O-level credits. At least 5 credits — grade C6 or better — including English Language and Mathematics, from no more than 2 sittings. The results can come from WAEC’s WASSCE, the NECO SSCE or NABTEB, in any combination.

The UTME. JAMB’s entrance examination, scored out of 400. The national minimum for universities is 150, set by JAMB each year at its policy meeting.

Where students go wrong

  • D7 and E8 are passes, not credits. They appear on the certificate and count for nothing towards admission.
  • A third sitting cannot be added. Credits are combined from at most 2 sittings. A good result in a third does not rescue a gap in the other two; it has to replace one of them.
  • The wrong five subjects. Each course names the subjects it needs. Five credits that do not include, say, Chemistry will not get you into medicine, however good they are.
  • Results awaiting. Many students sit the UTME before their WASSCE results are out. That is allowed, but the credits still have to be there before admission is confirmed.

The minimum is not an offer

Meeting both requirements makes you eligible to be considered. Competitive courses set a UTME cut-off of their own, far above the national floor, and most universities hold their own screening after the UTME. Check the course in the JAMB brochure and on the university’s own site before you choose it.
