Things to do this Eid Break 2017
I am really looking forward to the coming public holiday. To mark the end of the month of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting for Muslims, we are getting the customary two days holiday. If the moon isn’t sighted, we get one more day. So while we are keeping fingers crossed on that one, here are some things you could do during the long weekend that is an entire 4 days long. This list is by no means exhaustive, you would agree there are some pretty interesting options in there. With the 30% off on Hotels offered by Jumia Travel, a mini vacation to a luxury hotel in Victoria Island wouldn’t really be a bad idea.
- Do something you have always wanted to do
When you have a 9-5 and spend hours not in the office in traffic, it is hard to find time to do what you really want to do with your time, enjoying your hobbies and chasing your passions. The Eid holiday is a great time for you to find time for all of that. Whether it is writing, taking photographs, reading, or making music. Wherever your interests lie, this is a great time to do something you have always wanted to do.
Eid is also a great time for family bonding. Half the time when the kids are away in school and parents are at work, the long weekend break is a time that guarantees everyone will be at home. This family bonding can be carried out by planning a family picnic. A number of public parks are now available in Lagos, especially the Victoria Island and Lekki areas where family and groups of friends can enjoy the outdoors, play games, enjoy a meal and retreat home afterwards.
Lagos has a number of interesting places to visit. From the Lekki Conservation Center to the Fela Museum, Lekki Arts and Crafts Market, Nike Art Gallery, The Railway Museum among others, there are lots of interesting places to visit and see during the Eid break that your regular schedule would not allow you to.
You can also take a mini vacation and lodge into a luxury hotel in Victoria Island or anywhere else close to you. Bask in the luxury of a spa session, fine dining, room service and let your body and mind rejuvenate before you return back to work. Luxury hotels like Sheraton Hotel Lagos has a special Ramadan Weekend Package that you can take advantage of.
If you are a fan of TV Series, the Eid holidays is a great time to catch up on your favorite series. Be careful though and take breaks and ensure that your eyes do not hurt from staring too much at your TV or computer screen.
Taking a break from work, sitting all day and staring into a computer screen or attending to customers, a great way to spend it is by exercising and ensuring that you eat healthy. Nevermind the pepper stew that you’ve been eating at work, take fruits, drink yogurt exercising by jumping rope, cycling and swimming.
So that they will not say ‘Chairman you just forgot about me’ the Eid is a great time to catch up with friends you haven’t seen in a while. Invite them over for drinks and a BBQ maybe. Catch up on old times, laugh, share what has been happening with yourselves and promise to keep in touch this time even though you really may not.
Even without putting this on this list, the most common thing for many Nigerians to do during a long break or public holiday is to travel to their indigenous home towns. It is usually where parents and siblings are resident. What better way to well and truly relax other than eating from your mothers pot and enjoying your favorite meals the way you know how best to other than to rather than the mama put that cooks with ajinomoto down your street.
Find events online and places where interesting things are happening. There are lots of fun places in Lagos mainland and recreational places in Lagos where you can visit like the Muri Okunola Park, GET Arena, and several other hangout spots in Lagos that you can take advantage of their special offering such as parties, live band performances for you to chill and unwind during the Eid Celebrations this 2017.
